Good Food for All

We live in a community where the child poverty rate is 53.1 percent and many children go to bed hungry. We want to change that and to support the extraordinary efforts of local leaders to bring healthy local food to the tables of our children. We have a chance of creating a new thriving local farmer economy. Our first effort is to support the visionary leadership of the Good Food Coalition, a visionary idea begun by Los Angeles mothers, that has caught fire across country. From Los Angeles to Chicago to Boulder to Oakland, schools have adopted this program that changes the way our schools purchase foods so our tax dollars are spent wisely to usher in a new era of healthy sustainable and affordable local food that will feed all children in every Cincinnati public schools.

Short Term Goal: Our Young Public Interest Fellows are responsible to guarantee that Cincinnati will be the next city on an already long list of cities that will adopt this program. It is our hope that in January of 2019 our efforts alongside the Good Food Coalition will lead to an adoption of the Good Food Purchasing Program.

Established Good Food Cities: Oakland, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boulder, Portland, Austin, Washington DC

Anti-Bullying Efforts

Exclusion predominates society today: exclusion of women, exclusion of the elderly, exclusion of the disable, and so on. This exacerbates a self-serving culture where people treat others with malice. We aim to solve this issue through a multitude of mediums targeted towards educating elementary school-age children on how to be empathetic and how to build a safe community they want to be a part of.

Currently, we are working towards pairing our interactive children’s program with other mediums such as anti-bullying legislation, law reviews and media arts.

Short Term Goal: Implement our interactive program in any space where it can reach as many children as possible in the shortest amount of time. We will be starting in the Cincinnati Recreation Centers in early 2019 and hope to expand from there.

Caregivers and Children

The tolls that families and caregivers face from present laws can be devastating. We want to take on cases that will create policy-based change so the needs of vulnerable populations, such as women, children, the elderly, and the disabled, are recognized on their terms, founded on their practical and heart-felt needs. Whether a case entails a child victim of bullying, or an immigrant facing unlawful deportation, we support these individuals by making their cases heard.

Vehicle accidents are almost always avoidable occurrences when preventive measures are taken while on the road. Don't Text and Drive is our team’s initiative, one undertaken years ago by Michele and her husband Greg, alongside partners in Local 12, CW, and Star64. Now, we are turning to schools.  By generating presentation materials to be offered at school assemblies, we yearn to educate and excite students about Ohio’s no-driving-and-texting polices.

Short-term goal: To go out to every Cincinnati school and present our "I Just Don't Do It" Don't Text and Drive initiative to not only show students the dangers of texting and driving but to also bring more awareness to the national issue.

Compassion

Our entire team is dedicated to helping as many families as possible in the Cincinnati Community. We value our passion to volunteer our time to work towards a safer healthier environment. Through, as many different avenues as possible we are always looking to help those in need. If you or anyone close to you is looking to be apart of something great then we strongly recommend you reach out to us. With your help we can feed one more child, we can stop another bully and we can prevent another car accident.

Short-term Goal: To dedicate all of our time and efforts to help as many disenfranchised marginalized individuals as possible in the next two months.
