Create Real Change while Gaining Experience
We seek simple changes that may start small but grow to make a big impact. Imagine every woman in Ohio for the first time now has access to early lifesaving detection of breast cancer. We helped pass the bill. Now we set our sights on Congress to reach every woman in the nation. Join us, the Bootsy Collins Foundation, and Cincinnati Public Schools to help end bullying and bring a restorative compassionate response. Help pass legislation that allows the elderly and the differently abled to live fulfilling lives with their families. We work non-stop to make these kinds of compassionate changes in our community.
Each year, we seek a cohort of Fellows from all walks of life who help us create the maximum good in the minimum time. Fellows get the chance to gain real world experience in advocacy - work with legislators and journalists to implement a media campaign to help pass laws and spread awareness, organizing - bring people together to discuss and implement needs of the community, and research - draft policy briefs and memos to educate public about complex policy and legal topics.
Fellows gain the experience they need to lead successful careers in diverse fields that promote the public interest. Our Fellows come from all different backgrounds and not all have legal aspirations. Public interest work is broad and while we work on policy, we also utilize marketing and media, graphic design, canvassing, research, coalition building, and many other skills. If you have an interest in creating change for the public interest, then we hope you will:
A Note about the Fellowship from Our Founder
The Young Public Interest Fellowship aims to raise new leaders because nothing can be accomplished without the idealism, energy and vision of our youth— the youth will carry what we begin. The Fellows were chosen for their character, academic excellence, dedication to public service, and willingness to work non-stop towards positive change. Fellows work in every arena of advocacy from courts to public forums, even deep into grassroots efforts.
Because I am a woman, a mother of five, a daughter and a sister, there is a special emphasis on the issues that shape women’s and children’s lives. We live in a world where the woman’s experience is still not properly granted recognition, and I want to be a force that changes this. In practical terms, that means we tackle common-sense, everyday issues where the heart-felt concerns of women and children have not been met. We aim to make differences that are real in the form of advocating for better women’s health policy or anti-bullying programs.
We go about our work in in way that holds the humanity of others in high regard and we work for a world where we can all be treated with respect and love. We envision a world where our voices and needs are heard and responded to with respect and heart-felt recognition, regardless of where we end up, the station we hold, our sex, our race, our religion, or our different abilities— a world where we are defined by what we can accomplish and not the obstacles that hold us back.
